We don’t need to tell you mobile has exploded over the last several years. But we’re still shocked when we look at some of these stats comparing the state of mobile for the London 2012 Games compared to the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
With only a one-half percent market share in 2008, Android has skyrocketed to more than 55 percent this year.
U.S. mobile video users have increased eightfold since Beijing.
Apple App Store downloads have increased 82 times. They hadn’t even crossed the half-billion threshold in 2008; we’ve now downloaded apps from Apple more than 25 billion times.
“For fans, the proliferation of mobile means more engagement with the event and the event’s participants. Through apps, advertisements and other content, mobile extends the interaction between the event and the fan, even after the event is over,” Float’s managing director Chad Udell told Mobile Marketer.

Tappestry Update Packed with New Features
As we watch and read about all kinds of different sports, athletes and countries during the 2012 Olympic Games in London, we here at Float would encourage you to download our social network for learning, Tappestry, to log what you’ve learned.
Just in time for the Olympics, we’ve updated Tappestry with several major new features that you’ve asked for.
In this update, Tappestry v1.1 allows you to really drill down into what you’ve learned. You’re able to filter your Tappestry by time, week, month or year, and you can also filter by category or topic.
Push notifications have been added for this latest version, letting you know who has rated or commented on your thread, as well as when others request to become your connection.
The Tappestry Web bookmarklet is another feature addition we’ve been working on. We expect an imminent release for this tool.
We’ve also enabled you to add Tappestry learning events to your Favorites, for easy review and commenting later.

Learning Everywhere Now Available for Kindle
Since its release in June, we’ve been asked if Chad Udell’s new book, Learning Everywhere is on the Kindle. We’re happy to report to you that the book is now available for purchase for the Kindle platform.

Chad Udell Set to Keynote Upcoming Conference

Float’s Scott McCormick Headed to San Francisco for Employee Benefits Symposium
Scott McCormick, a member of Float’s expert team of mobile learning analysts, will speak today, August 6, from 4-5 p.m. at the 31st Annual ISCEBS Employee Benefits Symposium held in San Francisco August 5-8.
Scott will deliver a fast-paced overview of mHealth with a look at apps developed for wellness, self-diagnosis and care, emergency care, home care, employee benefits and performance support. He notes that with more than 10,000 medical/health care apps now available, it’s the third fastest-growing app category for smartphones. Attendees will hear Scott’s analysis of these mobile apps, what to look for in an app, and what considerations and options are available for developing an app.

ASTD’s Mobile Learning Certificate program is a hands-on workshop that explores the design methodologies, technology, platforms, and devices required to harness the power of mobile learning. Facilitated by experts in mobile learning from Float, participants will take away the latest and most accurate content on current mobile technologies, strategy, design, development, security, technology, resources, and implementation. Participants will leave this interactive workshop with strategies and technical know-how to make mobile learning easy to use and contextually right for their users.
The current dates planned for the program are October 15-16 in Alexandria, VA, and November 15-16 in Chicago, IL. We’ll be posting more details to our blog as soon as registration is available.
