We at Float recently had the opportunity to visit Swedish Medical Center to speak with Judy Hansen, director of employee learning, management, and organizational development.
Swedish has about 10,000 employees who need to meet an annual education requirement. One of the ways she can facilitate that learning is through mobile learning. QR codes, Twitter and more are starting to infiltrate their daily conversations at this major institution. It’s an exciting time to be involved in learning with healthcare.
“We cannot afford to take people away from their full-time job to sit in the workshop as much,” Judy said.
“Or responsibilities,” I added.
“Exactly,” Judy said.
Judy is working with a team to develop just-in-time learning applications. Material is delivered through a website or through mobile apps. Blended learning’s identity is shifting. See how Swedish is adapting to this new mode. It’s no longer just classrooms and books, but rather eLearning, mobile, performance support and more.
For instance, Judy talked about downloading a map of a facility with pictures and videos of certain departments to help her find a physician with whom she needed to speak. Watch this video to see how a leading-edge medical center is starting to integrate mobile into their learning programs.
If you’re in health care, let us know how mobile applications are helping your profession. What apps have you seen? Which apps help you?
