Steven Hoober: Avoiding the Heuristic Solution

Float Learning and Bradley University’s Department of Interactive Media in the Slane College of Communications and Fine Arts teamed up on Friday, June 10, 2011, to provide a one-day event focused on mobile. Industry-leading speakers on user experience, learning and strategy presented an invaluable amount of information about mobile design, development and strategy. Marketing departments, learning departments and IT professionals benefitted from the actionable information they could take back to their organizations to invigorate their own mobile efforts. Two tracks focused on Business and Strategy, as well as Design and Development.

Steven Hoober, an information architect with Alexander Interactive, advised participants in Avoiding the Heuristic Solution by Creating Inspiring Mobile Design with UX Principles. His forthcoming book “Mobile Design Patterns” (with Eric Berkman) served as a point of departure for a conversation on the topic of using the techniques of collaboration, team and workshop activities, and iterative design to develop inspired, delightful designs that can differentiate your product in the market, while still meeting proven design principles.

“Every design idea has flaws,” Dan Pfeiffer tweeted Hoober as saying. “Challenge yourself to a better design.”

An interaction and user experience designer with a strong background in web and mobile devices, Hoober has brought his experience in analytics, modeling and communications technologies to Sprint, Little Springs Design and Alexander Design.
