Float Learning and Bradley University’s Department of Interactive Media in the Slane College of Communications and Fine Arts teamed up to provide a one-day event focused on mobile on Friday, June 10, 2011. Industry-leading speakers on user experience, learning and strategy presented an invaluable amount of information about mobile design, development and strategy. Marketing departments, learning departments and IT professionals benefitted from the actionable information they could take back to their organizations to invigorate their own mobile efforts. Two tracks focused on Business and Strategy, as well as Design and Development.
In this fast-paced visual presentation on The Past, Present and Future of Mobile Learning, Dr. Gary Woodill, Ed.D., showed where and when the idea of mobile learning originated, how it has developed, where it is at today and what is likely to happen in this field over the next five to 10 years. This talk illustrated Woodill’s new methodology for forecasting the near future of new technologies, and showed where mobile learning is located on the technology lifecycle curve.
“An engaging experience is important and key to a design’s success,” is just one of the pieces of wisdom Heather Ford took from Woodill’s presentation.
Woodill is the owner of i5 Research and the author of The Mobile Learning Edge. He was formerly a senior analyst at Brandon Hall Research, a leading research firm focusing on workplace learning, where he tracked emerging learning technologies for a client list that included AT&T, Bank of America, IBM, Konica Minolta, KPMG, Motorola, PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Raytheon, among others. He lives in Gore’s Landing, Ontario.
